New Solo Show at CoproNason by Tiffany Liu entitled Gold Dust

Hi Everyone!

I hope all of you can make it out to see my new solo show, this Saturday the 12th at CoproNason at the Bergamont Station. Also joining me in the other two rooms in the gallery will be a lovely Holiday Group Show entitled Saturnalia and Chris Peters.

Opening Reception: 8:00 pm til 11
Live Music: "The Black Widow", "Livingstons"

Press Release

Tiffany Liu's new body of work entitled Gold dust explores that nature of Gold and how it is percieved by the world. Whimsical in nature, her theme takes you on a journey through a magical and mysterious realm filled with mysterious unassuming characters.
This is Tiffany's second solo show with CoproGallery and her work keeps developing and getting better. A graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena she has been teaching art to small children for several years. They have given her great insight into the narration of her paintings and become her greatest inspiration. "When they draw it is a big rainstorm of thoughts, emotions and ideas." Taking fears and making them affable, creating characters that speak to her and making art that allows viewers to feel as though they have stepped into her dream world is Tiffanys vision.

Genki Snipping and A Golden Shower make their debut.

These are two pieces I did for an upcoming show at Gallery Nucleus called Sweet Streets. I got the idea from old paper dolls I would make when I was little. As I was making the pieces, I felt a real connection to the people of the street fashion world. I feel like each of these individuals are simply seeking new ways to express themselves and in a sense become what they want to be by transforming what they see in the mirror. If you are in the area, be sure not to miss this show.

Show Goes from August 29, 2009 to September 14, 2009
Event Features:
Free exhibition music samplers to the first 100 attendees.
Dress up to receive 15% off select store merchandise.
Artist & 'Harajuku' models in attendance.
Music from the streets of Tokyo.

Swing Girls.

I just watched this cute little movie. One of my neighbors with this amazing dvd collection gave me a copy of it saying that it was one of his favorite movies. I liked it alot! It was really cute and reminds me of simpler more innocent days. If you get the chance, check out this movie.

Synposis:

A group of school girls in northern Japan are stuck in class for the summer, where they find nothing interesting. One girl Tomoko encourages her classmate to deliver the lunches for the school brass band cheering for their school baseball team, thereby getting out of the class for a day. Tomoko and her friends realize helping Takuos plan to fight the next big game could get an opportunity for them to skip the math class all summer. Takuo not having enough members to form a brass band decides to make the girls into a big band swing group. Tomoko buys a saxophone and starts to learn on her own. With the help of Takuo, she makes the other girls involved. They start to practice and slowly learn how to play.

Gessoing

I spent some time on the roof of my loft last week. It was a lovely breezy night. Gessoing is usually the part I dread most about starting a painting! I got this great sanding block from Home Depot so the job of sanding was easy as pie!

This is an unfinished sketch of the piece I'm working on now. This little monster is really full and pretty much a beached whale in a very empty peaceful beach. He's really full cause he ate most of the world.

Rough Sketch for Painting of my sister and Paul.

I am working on a new painting for my sister and her fiancee. I haven't done many portraits in awhile. I'm half way done with the final! I'll show you all when I am done :).

Moving the Growth I Grew.

This is a new sketch I did. I just got a new box of sketching pencils. I made the switch from hb to using H through B! It totally makes a difference and I love saving my dark Bs for last so I can punch up the contrast!! More sketches will follow :))! GEEK OUT ON PENCILS! YAY!

When it Rains it Grows.

Here is a new painting I completed.

Subtext : Meanwhile... at the Hall of Justice

I will be appart of this show :)

Meanwhile… at the Hall of Justice A Collection of Superhero Mishaps
San Diego Comic Con Weekend: July 24th-26th, 2009
Opening Reception: Friday, July 24th, 6-10pm

Let’s face it, everyone has a bad day. Even superheroes. And this July, Subtext will host a group exhibition that captures those mishaps for all to see. Did you know that the Hulk has been arrested for wreckless endangerment? Aquaman did some time for fishing in international waters without permits, and the Wonder Twins were still awaiting trial for public indecency. It just reminds us that even though they are super, they are still human (some of them anyways). Join us during Comic Con weekend at Subtext, and see for yourself what infractions your favorite heroes have been hiding under their capes.

Participating Artists: Matt Stallings, N.C. Winters, Jolby, Kelly Vivanco, Shawn Wolfe, Brody Albert & Demitrius May, Patrick Ballesteros (shown above), Aaron Thomas, Ken Garduno, Pamela Jaeger, Tocayo, PJ Fidler, Gideon Boomer, Eric Davison, Josh Taylor (shown above), Arbito, Aaron Jasinski, N8 Van Dyke, Tom Haubs, Scott Altmann, Ricardo Rodriguez, Jeral Tidwell, Marcus Schäfer, Joshua Ellingson, Ken Keirns, Nathan Fox, Angelina Wrona, Le Merde, Bwana Spoons, Joshua Clay, Shannah O’ Meara, Bobby Chiu, Kei Acedera, Tiffany Liu, Meg Hunt, The Little Friends of Printmaking, Marie Barr, KozynDan, Angry Woebots, CkaweekS, Newkon, Peekaboo, MyCryptonauts, James Jirat Patradoon, Justin White, Jonathan Wayshak, Zach Johnsen & more.

Art Schooling.

I was raised in a pretty artistic environment. My parents owned art galleries and art schools around LA. So I spent a large portion of my life surrounded by everything that is art. It is pretty much the only life that I know. I started drawing very early on (My favorite topics then included mostly unicorns and buddha princesses.)
My parents started their art school when I was 8 and I started taking class there since then until I graduated high school. Almost everyday, I would be picked up from school and taken to the art school, where I would spend hours drawing and painting. I became an art instructor assistant there, helping my mentor Ann Phong with her classes. I began teaching my own classes before I graduated from Art Center. I still teach there now. It has become one of the most inspiring and influential things in my life and part of my strong motivation to make art. I feel really fortunate to be able to help my young students and also learn and grow through them.

My Sleeping friend.

After a long hard day of art making, Mari Araki falls dead asleep on my couch.

<3

My night of painting on a scroll,

I was recently invited by a friend from Human Pyramids to contribute art to a international magazine. The magazine will include lots of art images painted by several talented street artists and illustrators.

My new umbrella haven. This reminds me of the days of old, I wish I could fly away on one of them like Mary Poppins! Too bad I live in a desert, maybe umbrella for the sun?
(note from the looks of my choices, it seems that the next umbrella I get will be green). My favorite color is seafoam green.

Kamikazee Girls

I just watched this fun Japanese comedy called Kamikaze Girl yesterday, based on a novel by Novala Takemoto. I enjoyed how surreal and creative the movie was. Like the character, I've also wished that I was born in Europe during the Rococo times. It was light and fun and I very much enjoyed it!

Also if your in LA go check out Royal Tea House in Culver city. Have lunch or go for afternoon tea and crumpits. The ladies in the cafe dress in cute french maid costumes. Then look around the gallery and the the little shop there. My friend Teri took me and I instantly fell in love! Sometimes they hold different themed events where people get together all dressed up and frolic around.
