Kamikazee Girls

I just watched this fun Japanese comedy called Kamikaze Girl yesterday, based on a novel by Novala Takemoto. I enjoyed how surreal and creative the movie was. Like the character, I've also wished that I was born in Europe during the Rococo times. It was light and fun and I very much enjoyed it!

Also if your in LA go check out Royal Tea House in Culver city. Have lunch or go for afternoon tea and crumpits. The ladies in the cafe dress in cute french maid costumes. Then look around the gallery and the the little shop there. My friend Teri took me and I instantly fell in love! Sometimes they hold different themed events where people get together all dressed up and frolic around.

I ran upon this wonderous little blog of lovely and strange sweets. It reminded me of the cake Ana and I made for my show reception at Copro Nason. Good times.

My piece for Nobody Walks in LA

Recently, I have been thinking about money a lot. The way the economy is going now a days, there is no questioning why. Like any good consumer, I need it, and desire it. My days are spent hunting for bargains, paying bills, and waiting for checks to come in. Money has given me a roof over my head, food in my mouth and most importantly, security. I honor money for its ability to make my life more convenient. On the flip side, it has also become something that I abhor. It has given me countless days of anxiety, depression, and suffering. It has hurt my friends and my family. It has done a lot of bad things to me. Money is my steadfast friend, but also my steadfast enemy. I can't rid myself of it nor do I want to because honestly, it makes me feel invincible. Money today has become power. With money, man has elevated to the position of super hero-dom. Putting out fires, saving lives, and solving problems in daily life is nothing with the great power of old Benji Franky by ones side. As with most great stories of super heros though, this seemingly invincible and powerful exterior is not without its weaknesses and dangers. There is not one super hero that I know of that doesn't have kryptonites and villains that could potentially lead them to ruins. However, one big difference between super heros and some of the very rich is that Mr. Money man's ruin has a higher likely hood of ruining everything else. The idea that these pieces of paper and round metal objects could hold such power really intrigues me and sort of scares me.

I love stop motion!

I ran across this wonderous animation the other day via a friend of mine. Which lead me to search out the person that did the animation. Her name is Kirsten Lepore. Visit her website, I love her energy. She also has a fun an interesting blog. Go visit her at www.kirstenlepore.com.

Here is another nice stop motion piece I found on her blog. Fun stuff!

'Nobody Walks in LA' opens this Friday
curated by DailyduJour

Los Angeles is starting to be referred to as the new center of the art world. In the emerging contemporary art scene, LA certainly is making a claim for that title. With some of the most talked about artists, and some of the most exciting art enclaves - the city that was known for being devoid of culture is now flourishing like never before.

With that in mind, DailyD is curating its first show, and taking it on the road to Barcelona! With over 25 artists including:

Joe Ledbetter, Amanda Visell, Yoskay Yamamoto, KMNDZ, Mike Shinoda, David Flores and more.

You can view the work online at Atticus Gallery

DailyduJour is your portal to the best of what's happening in Los Angeles. Gallery openings, artist interviews, events, product launches and anything in between. If it is culturally relevant you can count on finding it on DailyduJour.

With daily posts, guest blogs from some of LA's favorite artists and a members forum – everything you need to know about Los Angeles' contemporary art scene is right here.

Welcome to the D.

New Exclusive Release

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to release a new print with apapertiger.com. The piece is a special one from my recent solo show at Corey Helford Gallery.

The image is about two people in love that live on opposite sides of an island. Much of their different worlds are the same, but somethings are a little different. Their dream is to live together in one place.

Geek Love Painting for Literartistry Show.

Sorry, I haven't been updating so much! I promise I will way more often now :). Look! Painting! I made it for the Literartistry Show at Corey Helford. Read the book Geek Love by Catherine Dune! You wont be able to put it down.

Fly me to Austria.

Oh Austria. Oh memories. Oh love. I went to Europe during the summer and had a great time. One of my favorite places was Austria. Me and my bf stayed in a cute little bed and breakfast in the town of Salzburg, where Mozart was born and where part of the Sound of Music was filmed. Whenever I think about my trip and think about heaven, I think about those three days I spent there. I was in love in one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. Theres this feeling that I can't figure out, but that I can't forget. Its' very specific. I've gotten that feeling both times I've gone to Europe. Maybe its freedom, whatever it is it makes me want to fly.

Corey Helford Gallery "Paint By Number's"

This is a piece I did for this cool show. I loved working on it. I remember paint by number kits from when I was a kid. It was exciting to add my thoughts to this piece. The piece is based obviously around the title, "California". I thought of the idea after watching the news on how it had snowed in Malibu. The people were collecting snow and keeping it as if snow was some new fangled idea. The random oddity of the situation really did it for me. I didnt really have a set plan of action. I just went with what I felt. I like to tackle pieces in that way, I feel like a kid!

Mute Girl

I have a little 6 year old student in my class named Yvonne. In all the time that I've known her she has never uttered a syllable to me. There are shy people, but Yvonne isn't one of them. Her actions are rough and some would call her a little mean or socially inapt. She can speak, but refuses to use her real voice with anyone, but her immediate family. She intrigues me. My mom was a mute 'til she was 7. She never said a word either. It made me wonder how it would be like to live in their world. How their lack of speech would affect their development and the way they were forced to interact with people. Communication is a really interesting topic to me. I wonder how it would be like if everyone lost the ability to communicate, verbally or physically. I don't think we could survive. I couldn't even begin to think of the mass chaos that would come to pass.
I didn't speak much at all early on in elementary school and was put into ESL (sheltered class). Some stupid ladies decided that the reason I had to be in there was because I couldn't speak english well enough. WRONG, they wasted a year of my schooling. I spent much of my ESL times doing other kid's english homework. It was miscommunication Miscommunicationg or lack of communication messes things up.
